Thermal and physico-mechanical evaluation of some magmatic rocks at Homrit Waggat Area, Eastern Desert, Egypt: petrography and geochemistry

Abstract Egypt is characterized by a wide variety of granitic rocks, making it one the most essential ten countries producing ornamental stones worldwide. The main objective this article to study effect chemical and mineralogical variations rocks on their thermal expansion behaviors physico-mechanical properties for use as dimension stones. assessment these was performed using two parameters: first dealt with petrographic investigation analysis geochemical characterization. second some physical mechanical (e.g., water absorption, bulk density, apparent porosity, compressive strength), behavior in terms linear coefficient. Based description, samples were classified into five types: syenogranite, alkali-feldspar granite, albitized granodiorite, tonalite. characterization exhibited variable proportions quartz feldspars (plagioclase alkali-feldspar), addition accessory minerals such titanite, zircon, rutile, iron oxide-based minerals. showed insignificant changes coefficient values strain up 100 °C did not exceed 0.049%, which indicates that they can be installed places high-temperature conditions. revealed absorption ranged from 0.14 0.52%, density 2590.42 2748.23 kg/m 3 , strength 314.17 628.75 kg/cm 2 . These results indicate studied granites could acceptable interior (indoor) light-duty exterior purposes building cladding.
